This Genius Slices 'Star Trek' Movies Down to Just the Ships

Thomas Hunt has a hobby we can get behind: He takes the Star Trek movies and removes the characters, showing only the ship scenes. It seems ... oddly specific.  But give him credit: Even if The Search for Spock was just an okay Star Trek film, the Enterprise blowing up was pretty sweet. And the reveal of the Enterprise-A at the end of The Voyage Home is an excellent moment. 

Given that the theatrical cut of Star Trek: The Motion Picture is basically just three hours of tracking shots, it shouldn't be surprising that it is Hunt's longest video, clocking in at 25 minutes. What are boring shots in the movie take on an almost hypnotic quality out of context:

Hunt's technique salvages some of the real Trek stinkers, like The Final Frontier. With the poorly written plot on the cutting room floor and the philosophical nonsense nowhere to be seen, the five minutes of ship action that remains is fantastic, and not just because of the Klingons destroying Pioneer 10 just because: 

Maybe Generations wasn't the Kirk / Picard team-up you'd always hoped for, but you know what it did have plenty of? The Enterprise-D getting totally wrecked: 

Perhaps none benefits from the editing as much as Insurrection. Space war is easily the best part of this forgettable TNG outing, even if the CGI already looks rather dated.

Of course, space war was NEVER COOLER than the battle with the Borg at the beginning of First Contact. There was some awesome early warp drive action, a new Borg sphere, and even a rare glimpse at EVA when the crew must to confront the Borg on the deflector dish of the Enterprise-E:

You can also check out Wrath of Khan. The very best Trek movie, it needs no assistance to be amazing. Still, the isolated ship shots prove that this is some of the most suspenseful spaceship action in the franchise:
