The Trough 2017–2019

The cleanest thing you can say about 2017-2019 is that something interrupted the FKN upload cadence and that the interruption lasted long enough to be structural. Whether the show stopped being made, or stopped being uploaded, or stopped being uploaded here, the disk does not know.

The 23 surviving titles still sound like Deek. Conspiracies R Dead. Climate Deniers 2 Dumb 2 Fuck. Human Climate Conspiracy. Make America Suck Israel’s Clock again. You Live In The Free world... lol. News From The Future - You Are FKD. The voice is intact; the channel is just nearly silent.

Two title-patterns recur enough to be worth flagging. The first is climate denial as the dominant ongoing target — five of the 23 titles use the word climate, more than triple any other theme. The second is the Art For Sale sequence (April and May 2019), where Deek is using the channel as a storefront for paintings. These do not look like Newz episodes. They look like a musician using the YouTube account he already has.

It is tempting to invoke the standard story for this period — the post-2016 deplatforming wave, YouTube’s 2017 ad-friendly rules tightening on edgy political satire, demonetisation pressure on the format Deek had been running since 2006. That story is plausible, fits the timing, and would explain why a channel that put out 131 episodes in 2012 puts out 3 in 2018. But we cannot source it from titles alone. What the titles do show is a channel whose owner is alive, occasionally posting, and using it more like a working artist’s shop window than a recurring news bulletin.

By mid-2019 the rate is creeping back up — six May 2019 titles in one cluster suggest the door is reopening. The next year breaks it open completely.
