El Cortez Hotel & Casino
Kenny Epstein · built 1941 · kept classic Vegas
El Cortez opened November 7, 1941 — one of the very few pre-1950 Las Vegas hotels still operating on its original footprint. Jackie Gaughan (uncle of Michael Gaughan of South Point) bought it in 1963 and held it until selling to Kenny Epstein in 2008. Epstein has intentionally preserved the property as classic Las Vegas — coin-pull slots, deeply discounted rates.
